For the " Introduction to Sustainable Engineering Design" paper (stage I), we were tasked to work in a group to solve the EWB (Engineers Without Borders) Challenge of 2025. The challenge was to provide innovative engineering solutions to Loidahar village in Timor-Leste. Our group worked on a biogas system that converts organic waste into methane gas for cooking. It also produces nutrient-rich fertiliser as a byproduct, and promotes sustainability by minimising carbon emissions. I was assigned to design the ball valve in SolidWorks
I got to apply what I learnt in SolidWorks throughout the semester to something I built from scratch. I needed to be precise with my measurements and building as there are three different parts, including moving parts that needed to work together.
The full biogas system was put together, with each part made by each person in my group.
